    Raid 42

'Historical fiction of a high order' The Times Spring, 1941.The war in the West is as good as won. Nation after nation has fallen before the Reich's armies.Only Britain endures, her cities under nightly bombardment from the Luftwaffe. Berlin would happily call off the bombers in exchange for a peace treaty.Hitler would like to persuade Britain to turn her back on Europe, to attend to her precious Empire instead, to allow Germany a free hand to deal with the real enemy in the East. Peace, perhaps, but at what cost? For Churchill the price is too high; but for others within the British establishment, it is a price worth paying. On both sides of the channel, advocates of total war or peace-at-all-costs are at each others' throats – all unaware that Rudolf Hess, Hitler's quiet, contemplative deputy, has already taken radical steps to change the fortunes of the war... Raid 42 is part of the SPOILS OF WAR Collection, a thrilling, beguiling blend of fact and fiction born of some of the most tragic, suspenseful, and action-packed events of World War II.From the mind of highly acclaimed thriller author GRAHAM HURLEY, this blockbuster non-chronological collection allows the reader to explore Hurley's masterful storytelling in any order, with compelling recurring characters whose fragmented lives mirror the war that shattered the globe.

  • Which option is better for extreme gaming: RAID 5, RAID 1, RAID 0, or SSD?

For extreme gaming, SSD is the best option. SSDs offer faster read and write speeds compared to traditional hard drives, which can significantly improve loading times and overall system performance. RAID 0 can also improve performance by striping data across multiple drives, but it does not offer the same level of performance improvement as SSDs. RAID 1 and RAID 5 are more focused on data redundancy and protection rather than performance, so they may not be the best choice for extreme gaming.

  • What are some good action movies similar to The Raid?

Some good action movies similar to The Raid include "The Raid 2," which is a sequel to the original film and features intense fight scenes and martial arts choreography. Another recommendation is "Dredd," a gritty and violent film set in a dystopian future with a similar focus on intense action sequences. "John Wick" is also a popular choice for fans of The Raid, as it features a skilled and relentless protagonist in a high-octane action-packed story.

  • 'Raid or AHCI?'

The choice between RAID and AHCI depends on your specific needs. RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) is ideal for users who require data redundancy and improved performance through data striping. On the other hand, AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface) is more suitable for individual users who prioritize compatibility and flexibility. If you need faster data transfer speeds and improved data protection, RAID may be the better option. However, if you value simplicity and compatibility, AHCI may be the more appropriate choice.

  • RAID or AHCI?

The choice between RAID and AHCI depends on the specific needs of the user. RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) is typically used for data redundancy and performance improvement through data striping, mirroring, or parity. On the other hand, AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface) is a more basic storage interface that allows for features like hot-swapping and native command queuing. If data redundancy and performance are important, RAID may be the better choice. However, if simplicity and flexibility are preferred, AHCI may be more suitable.

The Rescue They Called a Raid : The Jameson Raid 1895-96

Almost one hundred and twenty five years ago, a Scottish adventurer attempted to expand the British Empire in South Africa with the backing of a mere 500 men. He was part of a conspiracy of entrepreneurs, gold magnates and politicians, each of whom had different motives for supporting and encouraging his actions.Leander Starr Jameson's Raid failed miserably. It almost brought down the British Government, destroyed the career of one of the most eminent South African Statesmen, nearly caused a war with the South African Republic and exposed Britain to international ridicule. It was a failed attempt to expand the Empire on the cheap. This book, using a number of contemporary sources, examines the motives for Jameson's actions, the reasons for the Raid's failure and its consequences for those involved. It attempts to answer the extent of the involvement of the British Colonial Office and its Secretary of State, Joseph Chamberlain and how he, Cecil Rhodes, Paul Kruger and Jameson worked for their own and their countries best interests which were not necessarily one in the same.It also considers the part played by the dignitaries in Johannesburg and the consequences of their lukewarm support of Dr Jameson. The book contains a detailed examination of the two Inquiries which were held as a result of the Raid and a blow by blow account of the evidence given by their many witnesses.Reactions in the British Parliament and the fate of the Raiders are particular features of this work,as is how the actions of those swept up in the plans of the key players were to affect their future careers.

  • St Nazaire Raid, 1942
    St Nazaire Raid, 1942

The raid on St Nazaire has gone down in history as one of the most daring commando raids of all time.Given the code name of Operation Chariot, it took place in the early hours of Saturday, 28 March 1942, and was a joint undertaking by the Royal Navy and British Commando units. The port at St Nazaire, which sits on the Loire estuary and the Atlantic Ocean, has a dry dock that was capable of accommodating some of Germany's biggest naval vessels, such as the _Bismarck_, or the _Tirpitz_.By putting the port out of action, any repairs or maintenance work that needed to be carried out would instead have to be undertaken back home at the German port of Bremerhaven. To do this, the German vessels would either have to navigate the waters of the English Channel or the North Sea, with both journeys potentially bringing them to the attention of the Home Fleet of the Royal Navy. A raiding force of 612 officers and men were assembled and dispatched from Falmouth to carry out the raid, sailing on board the obsolete British destroyer HMS _Campbeltown_, along with 18 Motor Launches. The idea was to ram the destroyer in to the outer gates of the dry dock at St Nazaire and put it out of action for as long as possible. The raid was a success, but came at a price: of those who set out, 169 were killed whilst a further 215 were captured.Only 3 Motor Launches and 228 men escaped and made the return journey back to the UK. Many brave men gave it their all during the action at St Nazaire, to such an extent that 89 of those who took part in the raid were awarded decorations for bravery, including 5 who were awarded the Victoria Cross.

  • Raid or AHCI?

The choice between RAID and AHCI depends on the specific needs of the user. RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) is typically used for data redundancy and performance improvement through disk striping or mirroring. On the other hand, AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface) is a more basic interface protocol that is suitable for individual drives and does not offer the same level of performance or redundancy as RAID. Ultimately, the decision between RAID and AHCI should be based on the user's specific requirements for data storage, performance, and redundancy.

  • Is this RAID 1?

Yes, this is RAID 1. RAID 1, also known as disk mirroring, involves two or more drives that store the same data simultaneously. In this case, the system has two hard drives that are mirrored to provide redundancy and data protection. RAID 1 ensures that if one drive fails, the data can still be accessed from the other drive.

  • What is the raid weekend?

  • What is RAID for HDD?

RAID, which stands for Redundant Array of Independent Disks, is a technology that allows multiple hard disk drives to be combined into a single logical unit. This can provide benefits such as increased data reliability, fault tolerance, and performance improvements. There are different RAID levels, each offering different combinations of these benefits. RAID can be implemented using hardware or software, and it is commonly used in servers and other systems where data integrity and availability are important.
